ABSTRACT
This research introduces a novel Neighbor Discovery Technique designed specifically for Ad hoc Networks (NDTAN) employing directional antennas. Directional antennas offer enhanced spatial control and communication range, making them suitable for ad hoc networks where efficient neighbor discovery is crucial. NDTAN leverages the directional capabilities of antennas to establish neighbor relationships more accurately and with reduced overhead compared to traditional omnidirectional neighbor discovery techniques.
The proposed technique utilizes beamforming and directional probing mechanisms to efficiently identify and verify neighboring nodes. By leveraging the directionality of antennas, NDTAN reduces contention and interference, leading to improved discovery accuracy and reduced energy consumption. The protocol is designed to adapt to dynamic network conditions, accommodating node mobility and changes in communication patterns.
Simulation experiments are conducted using NS-3 (Network Simulator 3) to evaluate the performance of NDTAN in various scenarios, including different node densities, mobility patterns, and communication ranges. Key performance metrics, such as discovery latency, overhead, and accuracy, are analyzed to assess the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
