Abstract

This project focuses on enhancing home automation using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, specifically through smart lighting control integrated with Google Home. By leveraging voice commands via Google Home, users can control smart light bulbs and smart plugs connected to their home Wi-Fi network. The system simplifies home management by enabling users to schedule, adjust, and switch lighting settings effortlessly, promoting convenience and energy efficiency.

Existing System

The existing system in home automation primarily involves manual control switches or basic programmable timers. Some setups include remote control through mobile apps, yet they lack integration with widely-used smart home systems like Google Home. These methods do not provide the full convenience of voice-activated controls and often require multiple steps or devices to configure and execute commands.

Proposed System

The proposed system integrates Google Home with smart lighting devices—smart light bulbs and smart plugs—via a unified WiFi network. This setup enables voice-controlled operation, allowing users to manage lighting with simple voice commands. The system also supports scheduling and brightness adjustments, making it highly adaptable to user preferences and daily routines.

Methodologies

Network Configuration: Setting up a shared Wi-Fi network for Google Home and smart lighting devices to ensure seamless communication.
Device Installation: Installing and configuring smart bulbs in fixtures and plugging smart plugs into outlets.
Software Configuration: Using the Google Home app to connect and configure Google Home with smart lighting devices through user-friendly interfaces.
Voice Command Integration: Training the system to recognize and respond to specific voice commands for lighting control.
Testing and Optimization: Conducting trials to test the responsiveness and effectiveness of voice commands and making necessary adjustments for improved user experience.

Technologies Used

Google Home / Alexa / Siri : A central hub for voice commands and smart home management.
Smart Light Bulbs and Smart Plugs: IoT devices that connect to the Wi-Fi network and enable remote control over lighting.
Wi-Fi Network: Provides the infrastructure for wireless communication between devices.
Google Home App: Used for device setup, management, and integration.
