ABSTRACT

This paper presents a simulation-based study on the detection and isolation of malicious nodes in a Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) using the Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol within the NS2 (Network Simulator 2) framework. Malicious nodes in MANETs can disrupt communication, compromise data integrity, and pose a significant threat to the network’s overall performance. The research focuses on employing AODV as the routing protocol and evaluates its ability to detect and isolate malicious nodes through simulation scenarios.

The simulation encompasses varying network conditions, mobility patterns, and node densities to assess the robustness and adaptability of the proposed detection and isolation mechanisms. The study utilizes NS2 to create a realistic environment, simulating the behaviors of both normal and malicious nodes, and evaluates the effectiveness of the AODV protocol in identifying and mitigating malicious activities.

The paper details the design and implementation of the NS2 simulation setup, emphasizing the integration of malicious node behaviors, detection algorithms, and isolation mechanisms. Performance metrics such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, and network throughput are analyzed to quantify the impact of the proposed detection and isolation mechanisms on the network’s overall efficiency.
