ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the impact of Black-Hole attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) through comprehensive simulations performed using NS2 (Network Simulator 2). MANETs, characterized by their decentralized and dynamic nature, are susceptible to various security threats, and Black-Hole attacks pose a significant challenge by disrupting communication through malicious node behavior.

The research focuses on simulating Black-Hole attacks within the NS2 framework to assess their effects on MANET performance metrics such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, and network throughput. Various scenarios are explored to analyze the resilience of MANETs against Black-Hole attacks under different network conditions and sizes.

To counteract the impact of Black-Hole attacks, the paper proposes and evaluates the effectiveness of defense mechanisms, including secure routing protocols and reputation-based strategies. Simulations are conducted with and without these defense mechanisms to gauge their ability to detect and mitigate Black-Hole attacks in real-time.
